Help with Check Engine Light
Hello all....
On my way home from work today, my CEL came on...The car was driving fine when it turned on and I drove the five miles home with the light on....I checked my gas cap and it was fine, on tight.
Are there any other quick things to check that could have caused the light to turn on....I am going to make an appointmrnt at a dealer to look at it but I am wondering if it may be a problem to drive it...Any help would be appreciated.

as long as its on solid (not blinking) you are fine to drive it because its an emissions problem. if it blinks, it means its a serious engine problem and you should not drive it.

That has happened to me twice, most recently last week. The first time I took it to the dealer, but it had gone off by the time I got there. They said they could'nt do anything unless the light was on. Last week it came on for a day and then went off. The car seems to run fine. I am thinking of replacing the gas cap. Anyone with this experience?

You can check your CEL code yourself by following the directions on Modifry's website:
http://www.baustnet.com/honda/misc/dtc.htm
This doesn't give you the info you can get from an OBD-II scanner, but it at least tells you what code is getting triggered.
BTW: PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation.

I read that if it is blinking that it means it is almost time for scheduled maintinance (oil change, 15,000 miles). If it is solid then your time is up for the maintinance. YOu can over ride the CEL with simple steps. It is in your manual.

Well I drove the car today to work and back and managed to stop by the dealer as they were closing to make an appointment to bring the car back tommorrow.
The light is solid. It is not the Maintanence Required light. They told me it could be up to "183-184" reasons that the light turned on. I was told it was ok to drive it around for the time being, which was my biggest concern.
I am under the 'HondaCare' warranty so I'm hoping that whatever it may be, it is covered. But I don't think it is anything major. I'll post back when I know what it actually is....

Was any work done on your engine recently? After they did the spark-plug recall on my car, they left one of the vacume hoses off and the CEL came on in my car the next day. So it could be as simple as a hose being loose.
