HELP with 02+ glass rear Window replacement!
#12
I could be wrong but I think it has to do with the rear defogging feature that started with the glass in 02. I still think there has to be a way to change the glass too, but it's just not in the manual. I wonder if a newer manual, one that goes up to 04 or 05 would have instructions for the repair. Keep us posted.

After looking over and over at the manual (page 20-47), it looks like they are saying there is a "bracket" inside that is covered up by molding that holds the rear window in place, and that it is a matter of taking the bracket cover off, then unhooking the defroster wires, then releasing the adhesives and sealers from the window, and it will be free. Then repeat the steps to put it back in. Sounds simple in my words, but I'm sure it isn't an easy job! I'm going to call the Honda dealership tomorrow to get to the bottom of this!

Ok!
This is one mod that I really like to do. And as my friend's had just cracked just before our eyes we started to investigate.
First the plastic window is bigger than the glass one. and its shaped totaly different.
Secondly another difference is that the plastic FOLDs down while the glass DROPS down flat.
To be able to do so Honda has modified the structure. There is an additional bar to let the glass drop.
So the result that we got is you have to change the whole roof including the whole structure.
But I must say that I am not 100% convinced, as I read in here who just fitted in the glass window. But do not know it it really actually worked. Its a risk that one day I am going to take!

Honda made minor modifications to the glass soft top frame. One of them was by adding 2 springs (left+right side) to help frame with glass top folding down.
In case you doing the plastic to glass conversion you simply fit to your existing frame 2 elastic bands that do the spring job.
Just did this conversion to my car and I am really happy with it!!!!
The best mod for early S2K !!!

Am glad you finished the conversion. So I guess the file that I sent you helped you out just fine, right?
I called you about 15 days or so to meet but there was no reply from your side (it was Sunday evening).

I just talked to the honda dealership here, and they said that you will have to replace the whole top I can't believe Honda designed it like that, if it is for sure true. They quoted me $1,250 for the top. They said for that price, you get the fabric and the window, then they use the hardware from the origional top.
