Double-clutching is useless in modern standard shift cars.
It's very useful when you have:
A. Bad (or not quite perfect) syncros
B. Any vehicle with a crash-box
I double-clutch almost all my downshifts just because I learned how and it's good practice for when you need it.

"Useless" is wrong. "Unnecessary" would be more correct. It will help extend syncro life and is a pretty rare skill in todays' age, no doubt helped by comments like that.

LOL, interesting thread.
No it's not. It's the same thread that comes up about once monthly where someone asks about shifting techniques (including double-clutching), someone else states that double-clutching is absolutely useless and a thing of the past, a ton more people begin quoting the most pathetic car movie ever made, and then finally someone with some sense states that double-clutching can actually have purpose just before the thread dwindles and dies.
Give it a little more than 21 days and you'll see.

I had to double clutch a Lamborghini Diablo when I drove it. It was the only way possible to get it into 1st gear while rolling. The gearing in was so high that 20 mph in 2nd gear wasn't an option. It's a good skill to know. I also use it day to day in my 20 year old E30...

Apparently you didn't find the humor in my post even when denoted with a " ."
We really do answer the same questions over and over, and it does bother some people, but new information pops up in threads covering old topics all the time, so I believe that the constant rehashing benefits everyone. It seems to me that if we stopped answering repeat questions, the vast majority of the traffic on S2kI would be religated to noobs asking a question and a moderator telling them to search, and locking the thread. Hahaha, besides, whenever a new question does come up, it usually doesn't get any responses, because nobody has a clue.
So, do you double (de)clutch, or carry your lunch.
