Practice whenever the mood strikes; it keeps the skill level up so you'll have it
if you ever need it.

I am confused by the sequence (1) depress clutch; (2) foot on brake; My experience
is that for a true/correct h/t, one is braking, then doing the h/t, so the sequence is
(a) start braking; (b) while depressing clutch, rotate heel for blip;

I guess I need that book because this is the first I've heard of heel/toe. I think I've been doing it since my first car I just can't be sure. Perhaps you can tell me if I'm doing this correctly.

1} Before entering a turn apply brake {in the straight},
2} With right foot on the brake and with left foot depress the clutch and down shift,
3} Right foot on gas and release clutch.

I may be total wrong, I've never had a car that preformed like this. I will be taking performance driving class this summer for sure.

Reese,

Nope.. that's not heel-toeing. Heel toeing means you're downshifting WHILE BRAKING. Your left foot is wholly consumed with operating the clutch, and your right foot is manipulating both the brake AND the accelerator at the same time. The ball of your right foot presses the brake firmly and evenly, and the heel or side of your right foot taps the accelerator to bump the RPMs up as you downshift to make the engagement smooth.

I tried to note what it is I am doing as I brake and 'practice' "heel-toeing". It seems that what the gear shift is doing is a 'slower' but continuous movement of the shift lever (i.e. not a power shift) to allow my clutch to

1. Depress as I shift into neutral.
2. Immediately lift clutch as the throttle is blipped as the next lower gear is chosen while braking via h-t .
3. Repeat 1-2 as necessary.
4. Immediatle depress clutch as foot is rolled off brake and gas pedal is depressed to again rev engine to rev match while the clutch is again being lifted with the car in proper gear, ending all this process mostly before turn in is initiated.

#4 step might not be the what people do to h-t to rev match, as the right foot is only on the gas pedal, so I am open to learn if that can/should be changed.

Prolene,

Do a little "garage driving" and you'll have it mastered in no time.
