Default Heat Wrapping Headers

I'm in the process of ordering headers and thought about heat wrapping them. Now I know that one of the benefits of heat wrap is to keep under hood temps down but I was wondering if there is really any other benefit to heat wrapping other than looking Oh So Sexy... hehe.

My one friend told me that it helps the exhaust flow a little smoother through the pipes and exhaust... less turbulence he said.

Thanks for any input,
Andre

If run pipes that are heat wrapped for a long time, they start cracking and deteriorate into nothingness.

Seems like a waste of effort and $$$ to me, considering the giant heat-producing engine will generate more than enough heat to warm the engine bay even if your exhaust pipes are water cooled. Unless you have a problem with overheating now, you don't have much to worry about with lowering underhood temps imo.

If you're trying to keep your exhaust hotter, be warned you'll be oxidizing the pipes if you insulate them with a wrap - they'll disintegrate if they can't dispell the excess heat unless coated inside and out - not with a wrap.

If anything it's better to have them coated.

Google Jet-Hot. As mentioned, some have experienced cracking from using header wrap...use at your own risk. Ceramic coating or Jet-Hot will increase the value of the header.

So ceramic coating will not cause any cracking over time? It seems the heat wrap and the ceramic will have the same function, so wouldn't it create the same problems?

The problem I experienced with header wrap is uneven cooling especially when the wrap material gets wet...this can lead to cracks. Ceramic coating does not have this same problem.
