I have been the passenger only twice, once when my 26yr old brother was driving (MAJOR FUN b/c he is an ex-rx7 owner) and the second being when I let my sister drive She cut it off at one of the biggest intersection in Charlotte and started laughing while I TRIED to reach the start button... She flooded it too lol.....ahhhh... the memories!

I thought that 258kph sounded unreasonably high especially with the roof down, considering the s2k is meant to max out at about 240.

Mind you at those speeds speedo error is very significant.

Surprisingly the road was fairly level but we must have had a tail wind.

145 MPH (~232 KPH) is more or less the accepted top speed for the car with the roof down. Drag limited. Trust me Roof up though is good for another ~15-20 MPH.

Speedometer error, at least in my car, is about 4 MPH too high at 135 MPH according to my GPS.

Like some others, I let a pro racing instructor and driver (Alex Krugman) at Homestead Raceway take me out to show me the line, wasn't too bad. Then I drove and got comfortable with driving the right line in the right gears, then he drove again.

After one easy lap, he asked, with a grin, "How are you as a passenger?" I just laughed and told him it's leased, go for it.

Holy crap... He drove the heck outa my car, and was probably easier on it than I was. I've had other instructors drive my car, but nothing like him. He would lay into corners so hard, we would clip the 4 inch curbs off the rumble strips full on and I would barely feel it. What a ride.

it is AMAZING how much faster the car feels as a passenger, and how much more extreme the cornering forces are.

i've been a passenger in my S a few times, and i always have to prod the driver into driving it "properly" for high speed (i.e. everyone shifts too early), but once they get into it... yikes. lots of fun. being a passenger on the twisties is downright frightening at times.
