My opinion, having lived through enough 40 below mornings and mornings waking up with a foot of fresh snow on your car, is that that tires aren't the only issue. Even with blizzaks (or whatever you choice of snow rubber is), you still are driving an expensive sports car with minimal traction. Soft top that won't insulate at all, plastic rear window without a defroster, minimal ground clearance. And it's not that I don't think the S2000 can be driven in the winter - I drove a 2wd pickup long enough to know that the S2000 with it's good weight balance and LSD can make it - it's that there are a ton of idiots who think they can drive on teh snow like they can on the dry, and another ton of idiots who think 4WD helps them stop and steer. A few people mentioned dropping $4000 on a hard top - buy a beater for $2000, keep the 2000 for storing the S2000 and keeping the beater running, and you might even have a few hundred dollars to spend on mods in the spring.

I guess different people have different ideas of what "winter" means, and mine is pretty extreme. My corolla (old daily driver, now my winter car) has rust on the driver rail from running over a snow bank sliding down a hill, my front license plate is bent in half from hitting a snow bank. This on a car that is a fair bit higher then an S2000. So if you consider getting 2 or 3 inches of snow once a month to be winter, get your snow tires, and game on.

I spent the last 4 winters in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan... Wisconsin is tame.

Heating etc is fine for the winter. Tires are awful unless you put something else on. Great little car year round if you don't get alot of snow/ ice and are careful driving it.

Other problem no one is talking about are the other cars and drivers that are going to slide
into your car because they don't have snow tires. BTW most of them are a lot bigger than we are.

This is a vary good point....it seems that the bigger the car or truck the worse they drive in the snow...at least around here...

We rarely get snow here, but the bridges ice over something fierce a few times each winter. Will replacing the S02's be worth it, or should I just hitch a ride on icy days?
