has anyone winter driven their s2k ?
I see many boxsters and 911's in the winter running fine.
Has anyone had experience driving in winter with their s2k ?
How is heating the inside with the soft top on ? Is it warm enough ?
thanks

Traction (or the complete lack thereof) in the wet/snow is your real problem. The defrosterless rear window is another issue. At least one person on this board (who will remain anonymous) learned the traction thing the hard way.
Buy a FWD/AWD beater, spare the S2000 from the salt/sand/snow.

To answer your question the heater works quite well except for the above noted lack of a rear window defogger. You can add the optional defogger for only about $3000.00 (it comes complete with a hard top). Don't consider driving in winter without replacing the tires with something more appropriate. We have Blizzaks and they seem to work well. It's no SUV but it is drivable.

Huh? The s2000 is fine in the winter. I drove it up to the mountains for snowboarding many times last winter. I had Blizzak LM-22 snow tires put on first, though. The car is great in the snow, plenty of power to get that rally-car feeling in the corners.
I just hose the salt off the bottom when I get home. My car is as good as new -- no ill effects of winter if you take good care of it.

I drove S2K last winter.. I think without a set of snow tire, it is pain in the ass to drive the S2K... Also, it started to get rusty after a winter, so I am now saving my S2K in the garage and get a FF car for the winter beater..!!

Drove it on nice sunny winter days with dry pavement. Not a problem. However, got caught in a
brief but enthusiastic snow shower during lunch hour. I can't begin to tell you how slippery
things got. I have driven in snow off and on for years and I have never seen a car that wanted to go sideways or swap ends like the S2000. Maybe with snow tires it's okay but not with
the OEM's.

Change the tires and you should be fine. Keep the rpms low in the corners and you shouldn't kick the rear around, unless you want to that is.
As far as rust goes I find it hard to believe that any modern car is going to show the ill efects of salt in any less than 10 years. The S2K should do much better than that.
I have an A4 with quattro and with the original Dunlop 9000s on it absolutely sucked in the snow (breaking and turning). Point being if you have the wrong tires on you could be driving a hummer and still have trouble.
I've driven much worse cars in the winter and you should be ok if you are careful and put on winter tires.
