I fixed it on my car.......moved the seat forward! Realized that I wasn't pushing the clutch all the way in only after I felt the difference...

I have the same 2nd gear grind in my '07. It goes away once the car warms up. The two dealerships that I've taken it to said it is normal for the tranny to be like that when it's cold. I'm definitely going to get this fixed before my warranty expires though.

I use to think the same thing. Then I start to make a active effort to make sure I push the clutch all the way down. problem solved. And i think the 2nd grind warranty issue was only for 00-02s? may be wrong though.

Thats weird a new s2k will have that problem, mine has the 1-2 grind in high rpm. I know usually a transmission fluid change will help it but I doubt your car needs that already. Take it in to the dealership and see what they can do.
thats what I would do. Its new use the warrentee while you can thats why its there

My S has the 1st to 2nd grind...noticed it the day after bringing it home new off the lot. 2005 model.

This is more apparent before the car is warmed up, but will occur even after warm up during aggressive shifting.

Yes, this can be mitigated by 'slowing' down the shift.

That does not excuse the fact this is a problem. I can shift perfectly without issue on all other gear changes in an aggressive manner.

Something is definitely different about 1st to 2nd, and it sucks...this gear change is crucial in getting up to speed on the race off a light.

I would much rather have 5th to 6th be the finicky gear transition as I rarely, if ever, would need to aggressively go 5 to 6.

But, ANYTIME you need max acceleration off a stop, you need 1st to 2nd to perform. This kludge is in the sweetspot of speed and situation you will encounter every day in street traffic.

In the end...after the embarrassment of grinding a few times, you give up and simply 'baby' that gear. 'Baby the gear' and max acceleration don't mix well.

The main thing on my mind in a situation needing to bound off the stop is that damn gear. None of the other gear transitions have this issue. Just the most important one coming off the stop.

Yes, it only applies to cars within the rage of serial numbers listed in the bulletin.
The bulletin also addresses a problem that the cars had when shifting at or near redline, rather than when the transmission was cold.

Someone posted before about technique and I found their comments to work. If you shift with the palm of your hand more towards the drivers side of the shifter it is smoother. The motion is not directly down, but more towards the center of the tunnel as you engage 2nd. I agree it should not be this way, but I doubt a synchro change will help if the car has had the issue since you drove off the lot.

I brought it to my dealership. When I got there it was warm & didnt grind, justkind of "plunked". They want me to leave it overnight, but couldnt at the time.

Yeah, there seems to be alot of posts on this subject but I havent seen anyone that's posted "I had this problem, brought it to the dealer, they fixed it, it's gone"
So, is this something that I will end up living with?
