Default Hardtop Question: $272.00 for what???

Ok- I'm working on my deal for a 2002 Spa Yellow.
I've got prices for my two OEM options and am working on car price still.

Front Spoiler and Installation - $526.20
Hardtop - $2,995.00
Hardtop installation - $272.00

HERE IS MY QUESTION:
What is the $272.00 for? I thought the Hardtop was set into place and locked down, thus $272.00 seems like a rip off. OR is there something the dealer has to really do to the car and the Hardtop to make the installation the first time?

Any help would be appreciated!

Actually, it's not that simple. I have read over the instructions to install the hardtop and it takes quite a bit of work. Take a look here: http://www.handa-accessories.com/S2000/s2khardtop.pdf

This is what you had to do for MY 2001 Hardtop installation ... http://www.handa-accessories.com/S2000/s2khardtop.pdf

Most of the work seems to be related to installing the defroster button, which presumably wouldn't be an issue for 2002 ...

Have fun,
Derek

The initial installation for the hardtop takes a few hours and is a real big pain in the ass (I know, I did it myself). After that putting it on and taking it off is just a few minutes.

triple h,
i'm working and gathering information for my grand prix white or sebring silver also. my purchase maybe in the early 2002. i did some search on this board and there is other cosideration when making the deal. things like the extended warranty even though honda has the 3 year warranty on it already.

sorry for changing the subject,
but you can purchase the hardtop at $2790.00 plus i thinking $100 shipping at http://www.handa-accessories.com/s2000.html. (saving of about $100) and install it yourself and save $272.

OK- the info I'm getting so far is great, thanks to all!
Keep the ideas coming!

Based upon what I have read so far I'm going to look into what the installation entails - DouglaS2000 and nova s2k

I will contact the dealer and say I need a 2002 price because there might be less work than they think because of the defroster switch already being in the car for the glass window in the softy top - thanks nova s2k

Thanks for the dose of reality from the person who has done the installation himself - almilli

Thanks for the lead on a cheaper price - vanowen

I love this forum! Any others out there with insights?

IF your dealer does good work I would let them do the job for $272. It's quite a job. Basically, an console disassemble and reassemble. Other than that, plan on a full day of fun on your own!

My $0.02 I think $272 seems a little high. I would be more tempted to bargin with this, either pay it, in exchange for oils changes, or ask for a realistic quote.

Good luck!

Mike
