Ever since I got my HT, I never took it off. So I removed my ST and installed a custom sub enclosure. Therefore I can still put stuff in my trunk.

I hope to get a hard top within the next couple of months. I absolutely will NOT be taking the soft top out though. I bought my car to enjoy it as a daily driver, not to make a race car out of it. The extra 70lbs or so doesn't bother me.

Guys, there was a great idea from someone...why not just remove the motor for the weight savings and keep the top on, so you can manually open/close it if you get caught out in the rain!

I know its not uber-weight-savings but for you guys who dont really need it, why not? You can also use the roof switch for some cool toggle or something.

Purchased a hardtop from Jeff @ Hardtopguy.com this summer. He expertly installed it at my residence and made sure it was a perfect fit before leaving. Jeff also has a wealth of experience and a genuine resource of great information. About two months later (and after fabricating a PVC hardtop stand (lots of excellent plans/designs on this website) I decided to remove the soft top (frame, motors, fasteners, etc.). All together, it came in close to 60 lbs. The hardtop was about 44 lbs. including mounting hardware, etc. I tried to do this myself and gave up after two hours of frustration. The local dealer did it later for me for $130, but it took them an entire afternoon and two guys to do. It was not as easy as it seemed to me and while I'm not a mechanic, I'm pretty handy with tools. I could not tell any difference in handling. I did get a lot of extra storage room where the soft top once folded down to and that has been a major plus. I also lined it with a soft material to keep things from sliding around. There is some less noise driving without the hardtop as I think the soft top created more turbulence. The major difference for me is the interior noise level with the hardtop attached and without the absorption of the soft top down. But it's not that great. The number of rattles (i.e. buzzing) has also diminished although one is still present and I think coming from the rear support deck in which the soft top is stored when down. One final note: the motors don't weigh much. The real surprise was the vinyl top itself. It was surprisingly heavy.
