Default Hardtop Installation

Hey guys,

Anyone here installed and uninstalled the hardtop? I took a look at the instructions online, and it seems to me that it would be hard to install and uninstall the hard top for a non-car person. You guys think a hardtop is worth it?

Thanks in advance.

Ahh I see, so one needs to do an initial set up of the hardtop. I hope my dealer can do this.. since thats a lot of instructions and time! Thanks.

Yes, that is correct. The front latch plates need to be exchanged with heavier duty ones and the rear latch assembly must be installed along with the wiring harness for the defogger plug.
Sometimes, if a dealer has never done an install, they may be quite incompetent and take a very long time, much longer than the "book" would allow for. Get them to give you a set price for install. This way, if you're in agreement, you won't care how long it takes. If you are even remotely handy or can get a friend who is, you might be better off to do the install yourself and save a few hundred bucks. I did the initial install myself and only needed my wife to help me lift the top onto the car the first time for alignment. The whole job took me about 2.5 hours. Getting the top home, though, is another matter. You'll need a truck or a van.

After the initial install of the hardtop, I mean after they exchange the latch with heavyduty ones, can you still use the soft top? Take the hardtop off, and are you able to still put up the soft top with the new latch?
