In some of the posts regarding the 2006 they mention a new hardtop.

Come to your own conclusions regarding your response from dealer ...
Not to mention that the 2006 brochure lists is as an accessory.

I don't think they'd discontinue them until they stop the S2k line.

A bit OT: is the $500 extra required for 2000-2001 models for the wiring for the defroster?

It's also for the mounting pieces that must be installed. As of 2002 (?) the parts came standard in every S2000.

Ok, if that's the case, then the $500 is for the defroster wiring? If I don't want the defroster option, I don't need to get the "$500 kit?" The $500 kit is required for 2000 and 2001 models, but not for 2002+.

The 2000/2001s need upgraded windshield strikers (in addition to the defroster stuff)
All cars need the rear catchers.

The hardtop kit comes with all kinds of things actually.. you can look it up on a parts list...

However all you really need to put the top on is the side catchers.. which i believe sell for about $350~ anyway..

Ahhh yes.. those too.. which are about $50~... so that and the catchers are $400... the other $100 is for the new brushes.. defroster switches/wiring/etc... so its still worth it for the $500 kit.

The purpose of this thread was to see if anyone "actually" knew anything about the hardtop being discontinued. I normally trust no dealer as far as I could throw them but this guy seemed to have called around everywhere and got the same answer everywhere he turned so I thought there may have been something to it. I just wanted to put it out there and let folks know if in fact it was happening since I know lots of folks like the hardtop. No real conclusions to come to since no one knows anything for sure. Everything I hear about this car is a rumor unless I see it (or don't) with my own two eyes.

It is NOT discointinued, the guys in parts were just not looking in the correct place. He would have to search through "promotional items" in order to find the hardtop. I went through this one day when i was at work, i had our parts guy searching for like 20 min until we found it.
