Hard Shifting

Hard Shifting
Most of the times when I shift, it takes quite a bit of force to put the into gear. I do notice after redlining a few gears, it's smooth afterwards. Can someone tell me how to shift or is something the matter with my car?
When going into first and 2nd, if i push harder to the left and then up , it goes in a bit smoother. and if i push more to the right for 5th and 6th, it goes smoother.

The gears are a little stiff when the car has not fully warmed up. I had an issue with 3rd gear being extremely rough when I first got my car but it's okay now. Don't know if it helps but sometimes while the car is warming up, I press in the cluth and shift through the gears a few times.
Shifting towards the left for 1st and 2nd and to the right for 5th and 6th is how it should be done since those gears are to the left and right of neutral. I think that parts just common sense. I noticed if you push TOO far to the right going into 5th, it feels like its grinding against a wall. After a while, you'll get the feel of your shifter.

Take a look at your fluid levels and quality.

if you have difficulty going into 1st, try shifting into 2nd before, then moving it into 1st.. should go in like butter. If you have difficulty shifting to 2nd, do it in a 2 step process. Don't go straight from 1 to 2, take it from 1 to N, then back over and down.

It's odd, but what you are describing is accurate. Probably have to shake it up a bit...warm up the car. It seems to be notch if you aren't driving the car hard. It's like the car knows it's being babied so its not cooperating, but once you toss it around a corner and exit out quickly....that upshift is smooth as silk.

A question pops up - how many miles on the car? The fluid level shouldn't be an issue on an 06 S2000. Most likly you have a new stiff transmission coupled with a driver that is learning to shift correctly. Team up with another owner and find out from someone else how they think it feels.

I noticed that the S2000 transmission although it does shift more precise than anything I've ever driven before, the shift into each gear isn't as smooth as most Hondas I've driven, it's more direct and takes a little more pressure on the shifter to get it in the gear smoothly, it doesn't just fall right in like my F22 Accord manual tranny does. I think this is good though, it means you have to be deliberate in the gear you're selecting. Might also be the close throw gearbox that makes it feel like this.
