Now at least you'll know when someone is messing with your car. What you do after you know someone is messing with your car is up to you... I saw you mention pepper spray. That's a terrible idea. If you don't have a firearm, then just leave the thief alone. Who knows if he's got a knife or a pistol. Too bad California has such terrible gun laws : /

I would get one of the cheaper hardtops on here (i think it is forbidden usa that makes a cheap one that fits well). Also get a good 2 way pager and make sure it is wired into all of the lights and truck sensor and maybe even have an impact sensor on the hardtop.

I would really consider moving if possible and if you are in an appartment complex I would be talking to the company that runs it. They should be providing some kind of security or something. See if there is any way out of your lease.

Have they taken anything? I am surprised you still have seats and interior parts on your S as thats normally why people break into them. If they are just cutting the top then it sounds like some vandal just messing with you. Get some cameras or stake out waiting for them. Also if you are comfortable with a gun you could buy one for the chance your pager goes off and you run down to your car. However if you are not comfortable using or even holding one then it is better to just have the cops on speed dial and try to get a look at the person.
Any alarm that's worth more than $1 will have a shock sensor. I don't recommend you approach a thief with a gun unless you're familiar with and prepared for the consequences. There's a very specific set of circumstances that need to be in place for you to legally be allowed to shoot someone. I have a handgun, but I'm more than aware of when it's appropriate to use it. I've carried a handgun on and off since I turned 18 (18+ can carry in AZ ), and have never even pulled it out despite being in a few fights while it was with me. If someone makes me feel like my life is threatened, they'll get a bullet. Otherwise it's not worth it.
I know most of them come with one I was more thinking about adding one for that is actually on the hard top. That way if anyone even touches it it should go off.

And I totally agree about the gun. That is why I said only if they are comfortable having a gun. And I never said shoot them as in most cases just pulling the weapon is enough but still if you are going to do that you need to be prepared to use it. I own several guns however displite the ease of carring them I do not feel comfortable doing so yet. However if someone was breaking into my home or car I would have issues pointing my 12 guage right at them and pulling the trigger if they meant me or my family harm. I am in no way saying to pick a fight or do anything stupid.

I'd never point a gun at someone unless I wanted to pull the trigger. I ran out of my house almost naked with my AK-74u once when someone broke into my car... They were gone by the time I got out there : /

They took my ipod nano which i already hide it in my glovebox. I leave nothing can be visible in my car except some useless receipts.
They opened my radio cover and i think they would go for my radio if they have time.
I already talked to the insurance agent and I'm going to get a hardtop instead of replacing the softtop.

Gettin a hardtop right now doesn't seem like the best idea unless you plan on buying locks and a nice alarm with it.

All they have to do is break the window and now they have yet another high prices item to steal off your car.

I can't Reccomend any more than what's already been suggested but id look at the lease and local laws of you were serious about moving.

I know in my state, if you tell your landlord you don't feel safe at your home and have valid reasons like your car being broken in to.. They have to let you out of your lease.

Good luck.
