Had TSB done and Still 1-2 Grind
#22
Let's keep this thread alive...
I too have had the TSB's done once, and continue to get grinds when hot. I requested a complete transmission replacement. The DSM checked and claims that entire transmissions are not available. Probably BS, but hard to argue.
I too am thinking envoking lemon-law action. The lawyers I've spoken too, however, indicate that lemon laws, contrary to public belief, protect the manufacturers, not the consumers, and that legal action is expensive to persue and it is difficult to win.
Sigh.

[B]Sorry for the confusion.
The question is have you had the TSB done and does it still grind.
Both answers apply only to those who have had the TSB.
Yes, TSB was done and it still grinds
No, The TSB was done and it doesn't grind
What I'm trying to determine is how effective is the TSB at solving the 1-2 grind. In my case, I would have been better not getting it done the second time. After the second "Fix" 3rd got more notchy and I got a "bonus" grind from 4==>5.
So far, even with this small sample it doesn't look like the fix works well.

I had it done with the clutch work.
The clutch is about the same and they did fix
the 3rd gear 'PUSH' problem ..synchro.
But 2nd gear is still grinding. I will try to get it fixed
this winter. I was the first one the dealer had done
so maybe they have learned something by now.
good luck ...

I had it done once and there is still a problem. It did get better though.
Glenn, the mechanic that does the S2000 work said he did it twice before to another S with no success.
He said,"Honda said the transmission was not made to be driven that hard".
He is a great guy and would not try to bullshit me and would be happy to do the TSB again, but dealerships have been given no other option by the Honda guys in California.
Otherwise they would lose money.

I recently had the gear grind TSB done in addition to the clutch plate TSB for the loud groaning noise from the clutch.
I have only driven the car for one afternoon since the service, and it appeared to grind on me, but I really feel it was driver error- I don't think I pushed in the clutch far enough.
It definitely feels smoother and is MUCH QUIETER since the clutch plate was replaced, but warrants more "testing".
It didn't grind often prior to the service, but when it did, it was under the similar conditions of other S2k grinds- warm day, after the tranny was heated up, and 7-8000rpm.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to test it much before next spring- it's getting cold here (MA), not very good s2k weather.
