Default Had to push hood down to get it to latch? Please help

I test drove and looked over my car the other day and noticed when i dropped the hood it did not latch i dropped it from even higher and it did not latch, had to push it down with my hand. Car is an 02 with 11,000 miles and tonight i went over to my friends house and compared it to his moms s2000 hood 2002 as well. Hers closed with ease. He told me right a way that my car had been in an accident is this true or could it be something else. I havent recieved my car yet but will on mon or tues. Any advice would help. PS bought car at auction and no real info was given although my dealer who owns a body shop looked the car over and said no signs of previous body work.

From what I've been told (by a dealer tech), you really shouldn't drop the hood at all, but rather sit it down and then push it down to latch.

Something about it being fiberglass and it cracking.

NONONONONO. The hood is ALUMINUM, not fiberglass. You should NEVER EVER push on an aluminum hood. Open it, hold it at a height of about 24" then let it drop to latch. If it doesn't latch, it probably just needs to be oiled or possibly adjusted.

You need to drop this hood from a far greater height than on other cars. Try raising it to around hip height and dropping from there.

I can't speak for an accident, however, there are two rubber adjustments, one on each side of the car that you may want to look at. If they are too high, the hood won't latch, if they are too low, the hood will 'shake and rattle' a little when driving. Based on what you are saying, they sound too high.

This happened to me about the latch.

I un bolted the receiving (Female) unit and adjusted it up a bit. Then it shut perfectly.
