Ground Control Coilover Conversion vs. Comptech
#22
I had most of my problems with my old M3. I was set exactly as GC specified - didn't change a setting except rebound, and was running on their "Street/Track" setup - I've since forgotten the rate.
I'm not trying to rip GC/Koni a new one (they were good at handling my warranty claims), I'm just voicing my experiences.

I have the S Techs on my 01 s2000(bought it this way) on stock shocks, and compaired to my buddies stock 01 the S Techs are really soft to me. My next mod is going to be suspension, I like the lowered look it gives, but It is just not that stiff, much softer then stock

Again, check me on the numbers. I know 01 is correct.
I have the S-Tech's right now and they are considerably stiffer than stock.
It seems a popular setup for GC's is
F: 340
R: 380
It does sound good to me.
Notice the default GC kit. It's ridiculously soft. I've had this happen to friends with Integras and Civics. Those kits are also too soft and they end up hating them because they never chose spring rates and took what they gave them.
Spring Rate Changes tuning: (copied from somewhere)
Modification Effect on Suspension
Increase front and rear rate Ride harshness increases; tires may not follow bumps causing reduced traction. Roll resistance increases.
Increase front rate only Front ride rate increases. Front roll resistance increases, increasing understeer or reducing oversteer.
Increase rear rate only Rear ride rate increases. Rear roll resistance increases, increasing oversteer or reducing understeer.
Decrease front and rear rate Ride harshness decreases; tires follow bumps more effectively, possibly improving traction. Roll resistance decreases.
Decrease front rate only Front ride rate decreases. Front roll resistance decreases, decreasing understeer or increasing oversteer.
Decrease rear rate only Rear ride rate decreases. Rear roll resistance decreases, decreasing oversteer or increasing understeer.

Were you guys that were blowing shocks "slammed"? or using a high 500lb + linear spring? Most shocks have a limit of lowering/spring rate advised for them.
Also, feel free to talk with the techs at GC as they are very helpful in picking spring rates.

I had the Konis on a different car. The spring rates were high, but within spec. The car was only lowered .5 inches from stock, so that was definitely in spec. The konis just didn't hold up.
Does anyone know what spring rates the OTS koni will handle?

This thread should be stickied just based on the breakdown of spring rates alone. Good stuff... besided the estimation of '02-'03 stock rates.
I just started seaching for a way to make my S2000 as fun as my CRX and shocks are at the top of the list. I'm running 10k springs on the front and 8k springs in the rear on the CRX and I don't really think that's too stiff daily driving. I guess I'm "insane"
I couldn't imaging going less than 8k on the S2k considering it weighs almost 1000lbs more than the rex.
