Grinding gears
Another newb question here - I've ground the gears a couple times from 1st to 2nd, and I'm wondering if this is just sloppy shifting on my behalf. Reason is because this only happens when I've been shifting a bit quicker than normal. When I make a conscious effort to shift smoothly; I haven

it most likely is your fault. what prob. happens is you don't push the clutch in enough so ur trying to force the shifter into position and then it grinds.
my gears sometimes grind when i'm trying to downshift without rev matching and it gives you a nasty feeling

1-> 2 grinds are much easier to do than they should be... its a common S problem from everything i've read on here.
i do it.. probably once ever 2 months.

Don't worry about it just adapt. Its not hard to do, focus a little more on a slightly slower throw to 2nd, or as I do: pull it out of 1st a little bit after your gut tells you to - the clutch stays to the floor that 1/10th longer and should make the shift smooth.

Its not just you. This IS a known problem with the transmission. I believe it relates to the unusual layout of the transmission's internals. This layout (I don't know the details) is designed to minimize the size of the transmission housing, especially in its length. This, in turn, made it possible to position the engine further back which contributes to the car's excellent handling.
The only fix is to always shift deliberately on the 1-2...easier said than done. Some owners claim that a fresh transmission oil change or a change to a certain brand of gear oil will fix the problem.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who grinds like once or twice a month.
It's always when I try to shift fast at high RPMs. Now I have to consciously slow down the 1-2 shift and totally make sure the clutch pedal is on the ground.
It sucks too cause the revs drop so fast that if I shift slow I can't get the revs to match resulting in a sloppy shift unless I remember to blip the throttle real quick.
EDIT: Btw I've been an S2k owner for about 3 months now.
