Default Grinding Gears

This happened twice to me today and I'm pissed off. I'll bring it to redline in 2nd and then put it into 6th and it grinds as it goes in. I thought that the gears were already lined up but I don't know what the problem. I definitely pushed the clutch all the way in both times when I shifted but it still occurs. This doesn't happen with any other gear transition. Does anyone know what the crap is going on?!?

Don't skip shift, it puts way more strain on the 6th gear syncro than it was designed for.

So you're saying it would be better to go to 4th then 6th?

Do not skip gears. 5th and 6th gear syncros share parts. When you misupshift, it damages the syncro and you will eventuall get stuck without a 6th or 5th gear. Do a search in R&C or UTH and you'll see a long thread about it.

So let's say you hit redline in 2nd, do you go through every gear (with the clutch in the whole time (obviously)) and then once you get to 6th, let the clutch out?

What these guys are trying to tell you is to run through the gears SEQUENTIALLY, both UP and DOWN. Skip shifting is bad driving habit and you are gradually destroying your tranny's syncros. Unless you got tons of money to rebuild your tranny from your own bad habits, stop doing it. Otherwise, carry on. It's your nickel - or 20 or 30 thousand of 'em.
Skip shifting grinds gears. Grinding gears buggers up your syncros, which lead to more grinding - a vicious cycle.
