Grinded gear for the first time..
I learned stick shift in may..with my S and never grinded gear til today..I was trying to shift extra fast and depressed the gas before the gear was in to 2nd and that's when I heard a nasty grinding noise..
my question is what parts are affected by this? synchros? just the clutch? transmission?? I will be replacing my clutch soon so I hope only the clutch is affected...
I mean..is grinding gears bad?? well it's probably bad but doing it once? I won't do it again I promise

it's bad for the syncro and gear, change the fluid to see if you have piece of metal in the juice. The chances are you are fine.
it's really depends what gear, speed, and how bad you had it, sometime if you are stupid enough, one grind afterware and it stay with car forever.
how bad is grinding gear? i think this one is self explanatory.

Grinding gears can never be described as good for a car.
However, as long as you dont force the issue when the grind occurs, you shouldnt damage things too badly. There's a risk of screwing up the synchros and the shift forks.

Grinding gears is always bad. Just as stated above, forcing it in would be even worse and depending the speed you were at could be worse. Just this once shouldn't be too bad and chances are your ok. I've known plenty of ppl that have grinded many times especially ppl that track or drag have done it, including myself and still good. Just change your fluid and see if you have some metal shavings. If you find that you do have some, its good your changing your fluid, if not, than nothing too serious there.
Just dont do it again!!
