The Grind....
Yes, I have done the search and this is my second S2000 as well so I am familiar with the problem. I bought the car, an 02 with 1500 miles on it. It now has 4700 miles. The last 1000 miles or so my car has developed the infamous 1-2 gear grind. It is slight but none the less present at shifts above 6k RPM's. I really don't want to take it in to get it fixed this soon so I don't know what to do??? Also, from what I have read in the posts owners who get the rebuild still suffer the same problem afterward. do we just have to live with a car that has a sucky transmission??? Then other owners are saying that it may be the drivers fault like there is some sacred art of shifting to aviod the grind?? Come on guys....................

Some people have had luck minimizing the grind with a change of transmission fluid. Not just replacing it with new Honda fluid but the type of fluid as well.
Of course there are no guarantees, your mileage may vary, etc. but there's a good chance that it might eliminate or greatly reduce the frequency of the problem. Also, it's been reported that "slowing down" the 1-2 shift by deliberately pausing for a fraction of a second between the gears can help. Keeping the shift lever pressed towards the left side of the gate has been reported to help as well.
My car is an '01 and sees more than its share of fast shifts at high rpm's and in very very hot temps (living out here in the desert and all) but I haven't had a singe grind since changing to a different fluid.
