Z did a 14.3@100, about what you'd expect since C&D did 14.4@98 in a broken in S2000 a couple years ago.

Of course, you could always look at their Neon SRT test - 14.2@102 out of a 215 hp, 2900 lbs car...Right. Either Dodge is seriously underrating these cars, or the preproduction models that everyone is testing (without mufflers) aren't representative.

Those neon guys keep claiming the SRT will not have mufflers stock, and it will also have 14psi stock.

Ultimate

You should definately send the letter. Someone needs to keep them honest, or at least show them that the readers know more then they and the advertisers think we do.

Whether or not the S is superior to the other cars is not the issue, this is a very subjective thing. If I think that the S is superior for my purposes, then for me it is.

The issue, I think, is that if you are going to conduct a test, and want the readers to think that it is fair, you should at least make it fair. With enough manipulation, you can get just about any results from any test. Or, if you are not willing to make the test fair, disclose to us exactly whom you are trying to please.

C&D gets their cars from Honda. Shame on Honda for giving them a new car for performance testing that wasn't broken in yet. I agree that C&D should have had an intern or something drive around for a while and put some miles on it, but Honda should have never left this up to them.

The hardtop is light enough that I would guess it didn't really have that big of an effect on the performance results, but it's cool that they included the S2000 in this test.

My bigest problem with the test relates to the whole "Coupe" test.

Of course the s2k is a worse coupe than the Z, it's not a real coupe!
Not only does the hard top add price and weight, but they are ignoring the
value add a convertable provides (yet still paying for it).
Why not just test without the hardtop, just leave the soft top up

Testing 2 non broken in low displacement high hp engines is just a mistake.

Imagine reading how a 25k Special Edition 6spd w/ hardtop Miata (or the MR2) lost a coupe compairson against a 25k Mustang GT, RSX Type S, and a GTS.
"Gee, the Miata didn't seem to have the kick of the other sport coupes. It didn't even have rear seats. And it cost the most! Not much value here"

Here's the opinion of a Z lurker:

Send the letter. Make sure to include the part about putting on the hardtop. I just don't see why they would ever do that, but that's C&D for ya.

If you want to read a better magazine, grab an "EVO" mag. They know much more about cars than the typical American magazine does (at least C&D).
