Default Got my NA AP2 S2000 tuned with AEM EMS 1052

I got my car tuned recently at P-Tuning in Manassas, VA with an AEM EMS 1052. Car drives really well, almost like stock. I can definitely feel a big jump in mid-range power (there's a good amount more torque from 2700-4000 rpms). There's not much to gain in peak power, but I was happy with the gains in the mid-range. VTEC engagement was lowered to 5300rpms, and I asked that the redline be raised to 8600rpms.

P-Tuning uses a Dyno Dynamics Load bearing dyno which tends to read much lower than a DynoJet dyno but is much better for tuning. (Details on their dyno: http://www.ptuning.com/html/awd_dyno.cfm)

Only real problems I've had so far is getting the car started (seems to be a problem with everyone who has an AEM EMS), and ocasionally the idle "hangs" at 2000rpms, a blip of the throttle gets it to settle back down at 1000rpms. The car's exhaust also seems to "pop" on part-throttle deceleration -- but I've heard thats also "normal" for cars with an aftermarket exhaust.

My mods are:
- AEM v2 Intake
- Ricks Plus 6 Header
- SuperSprint Exhaust

Dyno Sheets (click picture for more pics and larger resolutions):

I also have an old DynoJet dyno page on there from Fall Colors '05 where I made ~209whp. I think its pretty good that I made ~209 on a Dyno Dynamics dyno.

It reads lower, but I'm not sure by how much. If you assume that the two dynos I did are comparable, I made 209.4 whp on a DynoJet back in October 2005 and I made 205.7 whp on a Dyno Dynamics dyno last month (before the tune). There haven't been any changes to the car, except for some additional miles (I'm at almost 17K miles now, I don't remember how many, but was still under 10K miles in 2005).

I'm not sure those are good comparisons though. The Dyno Dynamics dyno is read on an indoor dyno that has a humongous fan setup that properly estimates wind on the road, while the DynoJet I was using was one of those portable jobs (outdoor dyno) with some little tiny fans. The DynoJet graph also shows I was making over 150 ft-lbs of torque, but the Dyno Dynamics only reads 138.8 ft-lbs.

But, I've heard Dyno Dynamics dynos read lower than Mustang dynos and are as much as 25% lower. The problem is, there's no way to calculate a 100% accurate percentage lower ... Its not a linear scale. So if the DynoJet reads 5% lower @ 2000rpms, it might read 10% lower @ 5000rpms ... if that makes sense?

This is the first non boosted aem load tune I've seen. As far as I'm concerned, that's the only way to tune an S on a dyno. You can really tune the middle ranges.

It makes a big difference on boosted cars too. Tuning the middle is hit and miss on a dynojet. Being able to hold any load speed and tune is the way to go.

It looks as if you still need to pull VTEC down a bit. Or maybe I'm just seeing things.

I asked the tuner to lower VTEC as long as it is making power. I know Hondata lowers it to 4200rpms on the Toda reflash. But the Hondata stock reflash only lowers to 5600rpms... So 5300rpms sounds about right to me with my mods. Any lower and I'd be almost riding the high cams while cruising on the highway

Compared to the Toda reflash, I don't have a test pipe so I'm assuming I wouldn't make the same power, or be tuned the same way.

The EMS will fix that on the ap1 too. My NA ap1 with MASE tuned EMS peaks at 215whp on a DynoDynamics at about 8400rpm and holds to about 8900rpm and then drops till fuel cut off at 9200rpm.

DynoDynamics reads about 10whp lower than a DynoJet for an NA s2k.
