Got a little noise. Can anyone help?
I was taking my car for a little quickie, and got some grindage going into third. This was last year, but now when I'm just coasting, or cruising real slow, I hear what seems to be like some loose metal rattling. It's not a loud noise, but noticable around 3000 rpm's. Any idea what it might be? Will it go away when I change the transmission fluid?
Thanx in advance,
Chris

Chris,
Have you ever had TSB 054 (deceleration buzz) taken care of?
This sounds like what it might be. There was TSB 055 for 1st to 2nd grind that I had done. I had 2nd to 3rd grind as well (more of a clunk) and also had trouble getting into reverse. After getting TSB 54 & 55 done (back in Nov.02) I haven't had any problems. I hope this helps.

Better print the TSB out. Here. Follow the directions.

My "buzzing" issue mysteriously vanished all on it's own. Has that ever happened to anyone here?
I took it in for an oil change, told the dealer about TSB0054 (actually I showed it to him and he photocopied it and put it with my paperwork), the dealer told me they needed more time to diagnose the problem (I was only there for an oil change) and to bring it back during the week. When I left the dealership, the noise was gone.
How is that possible?

Here is a copy of the TSB. You can find it in the library of s2ki. I just printed it up and called to make an appointment with my local dealership. It was no problem for me as my car is still under warranty. When I called to make the appointment they just checked the computer to see if it had been done before. If I can make one suggestion, make sure they have the part in stock. (clutch disk). The TSB took an extra day to complete because they said they didn't have the part in stock. As for the trouble of it getting into reverse, they said that moisture gets into the shifter housing. They took it apart and re-packed it with grease without giving me any grief.

This is TSB 055. Just ask them to do it while they have your car there. There is also a spark plug recall where the plugs back out due to vibration. Check to see if this has been done too. They just take the plugs out and put some loc-tite or something of the sort on the threads.
I wish you good luck and happy motoring

Thanx for posting the links for me. Ill be sure to print them out, and show them to him. He questioned me whether or not I had the "decelarating buzz". I said yeah. He said,"how do you know you have it?" "When I decelerate I hear a buzz from underneath the car. Why does he doubt me? Dumb-ass.

VR:
The "Dumb-ass" is relative, so is "transmission rollover" noise.
Park your car next to a wall about 5 feet away. Put the transmission in neutral and push the clutch in with the engine running. At this point the main shaft of the transmission is not turning. Let the clutch pedal out, now the main shaft is turning. Listen to the difference. Push in the clutch several times and listen. With the clutch out, all the gears are turning that are attached to the main shaft. They are just not "in gear" or engaged with the countershaft.
The noise you hear while "just coasting", not accelerating or decelerating is all the gears "rattling around" or "rollover noise" in the transmission. The deceleration noise between 4000 to 3000 is the same noise but is being amplified by the pulses of the engine. Both the noise while coasting and the noise against the wall are normal. The deceleration noise from 4k to 3k sometimes can be made better with a new clutch disk, depending on how loud it is.
