Have any of you ever thought of adding an extra pair of speakers to the door panels? I wanted to add a pair of quality 5.25" speakers to the rear, but they didn't fit because the speakers' depth was too long to fit in between the metal bars in the back.

I'm thinking of adding that pair to the doors, and using a 4-ch amp to bridge to the front, which will be distributed by a pair of crossovers. I'm not an audiophile (sp?) but I can install all the audio equipments. However, I'm not sure if it's sufficient to run a pair of speakers on each side, even using an amp. Would the audio quality be reduced? Is there any else wrong with it?

Since a lot of you worry about the imaging with the rear speakers installed, wouldn't an extra pair of front speakers add more volume and depth to the overall audio system? Please input!

It sounds like you bought the 5.25s and just want to stick them SOMEWHERE so that your $$ doesn't go to waste. Although I am not a fan of rear speakers, if you really wanted, I think there are ways (Lucid, S-Pods) of making them fit in the back. Putting them in the door is a bad idea, because, aside from having to mangle your doors, it would just be redundant, and 5.25s GENERALLY don't give as good sound (don't have the same range in depth) as 6.5s. If you really want good sound, forget the 5.25s, and get a high quality (Focal, JL, Boston, MBQ, Infinity, Koda, CDT, etc) set of 6.5" components and a 2 channel amp feeding them 100+ watts per channel, and you will never need the 5.25s in the door, or, IMHO, in the rear.

Thanks for the response! Well, I'm going to return the 5 1/2" speakers for now. Next step would be installing the amp. Oh, I already have a nice set of component in the doors already, but it's not amplified yet; only by the Sony HU.

After the amp installation and if I'm not satisfied with it, I'm going to take a chance and install an extra pair of 5.25 or 6.5" to improve overall volume and depth. I don't mind making two holes for the speakers because the car is mine and I'm going to keep it for a while. I'm sure the next owner wouldn't mind either, as it will have pretty good sounds; I hope.
