Slipping is slower releasing (Burning the clutch)
Dropping is releasing the clutch fast ass possible also known as sidestepping. (Sidestepping is putting the clutch all the way to the floor and sliding you foot off the clutch completely so it releases and comes up at it's own speed.)

thanks s2-raw.. i've sidestepped before but one of the rubber nubby things on the clutch popped off. can you just pull back your foot real fast, or is that not fast enough? i'll try it that way anyway cause i think it's easier.

So all this conflicting information... some suggest slipping the clutch, some suggest dumping it... feathering the throttle... etc.
Okay, assuming you want to do this without harming it TOO much (ie. do more than 1 or 2 times without completely frying or breaking something), what would be a "better" way to launch? It doens't mean you need to get the absolute best performance (if that means destroying a part of the car for the best launch, i'd rather not, and I doubt most people here want that either except for a one off drag launch).
So... what do you recommend?

Slipping the clutch and feathering is bad. Drop it at 6200 or so and floor it. tires will brake loose and slide out sometimes but when they grab your car won't bog down. It's better to replace your tires instead of your Diff.

When you say "drop it at 6200" does that mean you keep the throttle constant when you drop it, or as soon as you drop it, then immediately floor the throttle?
Wouldn't the car just constantly burn the tires without getting any traction if you did that?

yes, the tires will just keep burning. that was my mistake when i tried to launch. i think after a short time of tires burning, let off on the throttle and they should grip. or at least that's what it seems everyone is saying.

I personally know 3 people in my area that have blown their differentials.
I was real bad to my s2000...must have dropped the clutch 100+ times.
Screwed up a cv joint housing and had it replaced.
Shortly after that I started to hear some popping noises from the rear.
I am not saying that if you go out and drag race the s2000, it will break right away.
But eventuall something will give.
