Default Going to buy an s2000, know any tricks?

hi guys and girls,

well i went to a dealer today to purchase an 03 s2k with almost 26K miles on it. dealer wants 27K + fee's. hell no im not giving them even 25K + fee's. anyways i need some help on making them crack. kbb tells me the car is worth 20440 trade in. so i want to pay somewhere around there because thats probably what the dealer paid. now my question.

what does the dealer usually pay for after they buy a car? does it need smog? and also anyone know how much a dealer looses per day for any used car that jus sits there?

these guys told me that they paid $600 for smog and whatever else they had done to the car, i think thats a big if anyone can educate me before i go back i would greatly apperciate it. anything info will do.

thanks a lot.

U can get a 04 with the price dealer is asking! 27k is too much for a 03.

Is it at least a CPO? If not expect to get it for around 22K, CPO is
worth 2k more.

That price is way too high. I would hold out for another dealer.

Just bought mine a week ago, a 2004 (1900 miles), $27K (under KBB value) + dest. chrg, sales tax.

You have to do some homework and know exactly what you want. I was looking for a new one, but ended up with a used one, as it was a good deal and the color I wanted. I found the S2K via CarMax, excellent customer service, no hassle with the price ... buy it or leave it. Plus I ran a carfax report on the vehicle. clean report.
Additionally, Carmax has a 5 day return policy and will refund the $$$.

Good Luck.

Buy private party; you'll have much better luck with pricing. The ONLY reason I can see buying from a dealer is if you're getting a certified used vehicle, but even then I'd disagree with the statement above that a certified vehicle is worth an extra $2k. An extended warranty can be had for ~$1k, although you do have to be careful in selecting the warranty company.

Aiming for the "trade-in" price is ridiculous. The dealerships are there to make a profit, not to make a trade without any advantage to their part.

Although I do agree that 27k for a 03 S2000 is too much.

"these guys told me that they paid $600 for smog and whatever else they had done to the car"

that 600 is called the house pack.

every car has one and is ususally a set amount assuming the car does not need any work. It got towards inspection, detail, and shop. Thats assumeing the car needs anything.

look on ebay and see if there is anything local to you. im also in the market for an S but wont be buying till Jan. But i have been doing my research and the dealer is very high.

Are you from SE PA, i looked at a very similar car and price that came up.

That's what they did last month at the auctions, dealers typically pay less for a trade in than they do an auction car. Certification usually costs around $1000-1500, depending on what kind of shape the car is in, I don't remember exactly how much the CPO warranty costs.
