I'd NEVER try it alone, nor (I suspect) would most hardtop owners.
If it takes less than one minute of someone else's time, why wouldn't you be careful with your $30,000+ car ???

to answer your question yes it is possible to retrofit your 01 with the soft top off an 02/03 with the glass window. You can keep your '01 frame but it requires some modding. I think it is just some rubber bands (not postal size) between the bars.
Do a search and all your questions will be answered, and some, this topic has been flogged not so long ago.
