Glass or Plastic?
I drive an 01, and the only major issue I have is the plastic rear window, I'm looking at a second replacement already....Note that it's always been a shop's fault. I was wondering if anyone has ever actually replaced the plastic job with a glass top? I know you have to remove the top and replace it with the glass top, not just the window insert. Anyone done this?
I talked to the local auto upholstery shop and he said he did it to an older Miata and had massive troubles with the spring loaded rear brace.

There's a PDF on here somewhere that describes the conversion. I believe you have to make a couple elastic straps but you do have to replace the entire top and I think that is a 10+ hour job.

I haven't replaced a S2000 top (since I don't own a S2000, yet). But I've replaced the top on a miata. Top replacement should be a relatively routine job for an upholstery shop. It sounds like the one you went to doesn't have too much experience with them, you want to go to a shop that does top replacements on a somewhat routine basis. Also, I don't know if this is how it works on the S2000, but on the miata you can either buy a new top and the shop has to actually take your old top off the frame or you can buy a whole new top and frame and all you have to do is swap out the two.
