Getting out of my s2k lease
#1
Hi all.
I LOVE my s2k, but I've got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to move to Europe for at least a year. I do not have the liquidity to keep paying $730 a month on my 2 year lease that is 1.5 years from maturity- and be in Europe. What the heck are my options?
My red '00 s2k has 3500 pampered miles on it and is in like-new condition.
Questions?
1. I called honda finance and they said I could try to sell it. How much can I get? What medium do I advertise in?
2. Are there any sneaky ways to get out of a lease?
Any other suggestions would be very, very welcome.

Unfortunatly I don't know the legalities of this, but I have gotten out of leases up to 8 months left. They just reasses the buyback. With the S2K like it is you should be in the black.
My other ( maybe too wild ) suggestion is, do you know any close friends that would want to pick up the tab while your gone and use the car? It might be nice to come back to it down the road. I realize this is probably crazy, but hey you asked

find out from the financing company what the buy-out would be if you were to purchase the car say in a week. then, go out and advertise for that same price, or higher, to make up for all your worries. all depends on how good the market is for a used S2K in your area. you may or may not come out ahead in this deal.
good luck.
good luck.

My experience with Honda Finance is that they'll be glad to let you out of your lease. Just send them all the unpaid payments and you're off scot free!
If you do figure something out, let me know. I've got a 1998 Prelude sitting right next to my 2001 S2000 in my garage that I'd love to give back to them.
Or... I could SELL it to one of you!

Okay lets see if this helps, I work for a dealership, I might shed some light. As several a head of me have said, sell it in the paper, for what the pay off is. BEWARE!!! EARLY TERMINATION OF A LEASE, WILL RESULT IN PENALTIES FROM THE FINANCE COMPANY. Find out what the penalty will be and try to make up the loss in the selling price. Next, if you are currently with AHFC, they have what is called a transfer of equity. This is where you find a buyer or lessor, who is willing to take on your payments, and your local Honda Dealer will probably do the paperwork for a slight fee. If that doesnt work, find a friend that will atleast pay a large portion of the payments, and pay the rest yourself. (Make a deal, say your buddy pays 600 a month, and gives you the car when you come back from Europe.) Well, GOOD LUCK.

No more so than others. Run a search on these guys on this board. They joy ride in cars they don't own. Break the cars they are supposed to be fixing. They are asking 5-8k over sticker for the S2000, sales managers and sales people know nothing about the car. I simply went in, offered MSRP and was all but thrown out the door. Ended up ordering from Joe Zawatski out of Honda of Mentor in Ohio. Paying MSRP (no forced options) plus shipping. Easy and simple. Lute Riley has 8 sitting in their showroom. No real surprise I guess given their tactics.
