Is getting an Alarm/LoJack worth it?
Hi all,
I just got a 2002 white s2k with red interior. woot woot.
My previous car, GSR, was stolen, so I want to be safe.
Is the keyless entry good enough? Or should I get an alarm?
Also, my friend keeps saying to get LoJack, but for $600 it's kinda pricey.
Any advice on my new baby???

IMO...it's worth it. I found out a couple months ago that a vehicle that I bought used, had lojack.... the police informed me of it when it was stollen. It was recovered 5 hours later.

Once u report the car stolen. Does the police know exactly where your car is within minutes ? Or they will ONLY know where it is if one of the police car equiped with a "receiver" get the signal if they NEAR your stolen car ? Please provided info.

From what I was told the police input the vehicle VIN into the lojack data base. It tells them if it is so equipped and the activation code. Once the code is set the receiver sends out a signal that is tracked via the lojack system.

I bought my used MY04 with a Lojack Early Warning system already installed. I did not get charged extra for it, so I did not have to go through the process of thinking if I wanted it or not. Now that I have it, I am happy that I do. The early warning system alerts me within 15minutes when the car is moved by anyone other than me. That way I can call the police immediately instead of waiting till the end of the day at work to find out that the car has been stolen.
Only down side to the Early Warning system is the extra key fob you need to have on the key chain. That was easy to get used to.
I am also considering an alarm with a proximity sensor for added security. But, there I go thinking if I really want to spend the $$ for it. Damn I wish it just came with the car !!

It depends...
For some people, an alarm is nothing more than an expensive noisemaker.
Whether it's worth it or not all depends on where you park and what you're trying to protect.
The sad fact is, if someone really wants your car or what's inside it, they'll find a way to get it.
