Gearing/transmission problem??
Hi again everyone,
Still only have my year 2000 S2000 for a week now and getting used to it...loving it soooo much. But, just something about the transmission/gearing if you have a moment....
When I am sitting in Neutral (with hardbrake off)....I clutch (fully) and engage first. Most of the time I hear a slight CLUNK behind me to the left of the car and as the gear is engaging it seems to nudge the car foward SLIGHTLY...not much (infact it barely moves at all) but there is a little force on the car to move forward. Also, other gears sometimes seem a little difficult to get.
What do you think this is....is it normal or should I get it checked out??
Thanks for your help,
Adrian

I have the same thing happening to my car too (MY2000, 17k miles).
It sounds like a muffled "clunk" at the back of my car when engaging to only the 1st gear from neutral. I cannot hear the sound when I engage slowly.
Any ideas or is this normal?

Welcome to the club of CLUTCH REPLACEMENT.
You're most likely experiencing the first signs of a sticky clutch.
First thing you should do is check your clutch fluid resevoir and see what condition the fluid is in. If it's black, check the drivers side floorboard and look at the master cylinder where the clutch rod connects. If it's leaking at all, you need, at the least, a new master cylinder.
If the fluid is black but you don't see any sign of a leak, flush the system with new fluid. You should probably replace or rebuild the slave cylinder at the same time.
If this doesn't alleviate the issue, then you most likely need a clutch replacement. I had the same problem, although mine was much more advanced. I was unable to get the car into any gear other than 3rd or 4th when cold and at a stop. Shifting out of any gear, I could also occasionally feel that the clutch wasn't disengaging.
Anyway, start with the checking out the hydraulic system and go from there.

However, if the car moves forward at all when you're doing this, then the clutch isn't completely disengaging.
