Default gas mileage w/ 4.44's

searched around for gas mileage differences running 4.44 final gear, but no specifics were posted. I think xviper has 4.44s on? Can anybody with the replaced final gear give me any specifics? I currently get around 22mpg with city/highway combo driving. thanks.

In city driving: Stock - 26 miles/Can. gallon. With 4.44 - 24 mpg.
I cannot tell you much now as I now have the S/C too. With this combo, I'm down to about 21 mpg but this is in part due to the fact that the power is so addictive that I'm always "on it".
Unfortunately, I have not done a highway mileage comparison. I will be able to tell you what it will be in a couple of months time when I go on vacation. The last best highway mileage with everything stock was 39.9 mpg. (Remember, it's CANADIAN gallon.)

I got around 240 with 3 gallons to go. (24mpg. average)
I still get around 240 with 3 gallons to go w/t more spirited driving.

I think the mpg highly depends on how you drive.
the 4.44s just make it that much better

I haven't noticed any degredation in mileage with the 444's unless I'm on the highway..It's hot here so FI sucks lots of gas on a warm afternoon lol but i'm getting 20 on the hwy and actually I think I'm getting better mileage in city traffic if I don't get on it as I'm using the rpm ranges differently...It's nice to have some snap down low.

I just went on a long group drive with a bunch of other S2000s at Sac2KDays II. We all left with a full tank of gas, and by the time we got to where we were going, I had 3 bars of fuel on my 4.44 equipped S. So did every other S2000 there. For MOST driving, there is no real noticable difference with the 4.44. I haven't taken it on a long highway trip yet, but that's the only place I expect to see any difference.

so sounds like the only effects of the gears is faster acceleration, extra wear on your mechanicals involved, louder/higher revs than stock.

sounds like a damn good deal to me...

Now here's a question, how much gas mileage difference is there between stock and 4.77 gears? I plan on getting the 4.77's rather than 4.44. Fortunately, having a truck that guzzles gas now, it won't matter as much.

Most of us who do mainly city driving with 4.44's find ourselves actually being in one gear higher than when we had the stock gears. Therefore, for us, your last 2 "down sides" are not applicable. Highway running in top gear will see a bit more of your "downers".
So, it's an even better deal than you thought!

Again, your highway fuel useage will be the most noticeable but then, 4.77's have never been a good idea if you run the highways a lot.
In town, just like the 4.44's, you will find yourself in one higher gear when just "cruising" around, so your fuel economy won't be that apparently different. However, it will be REALLY bad for the first little while because the low end grunt is SOOOOOOOO addictive. Until you learn to wipe that silly grin off your face, you'll just burn gas up like it was GaterAid through a football player.
