gas mileage observations
on a recent drive to the dragon over the weekend i noted some interesting findings:
normal city driving: 22-24 mpg.
extended highway driving (8 hours): 35 mpg (with a passenger and about 30 pounds of luggage).
slaying the dragon for the first time: 18 mpg, by far the worst i've ever gotten (something about never leaving 2nd gear). but driving it makes you do this .
if you don't know what the dragon is click here.
what the worst mpg you gotten?

Yup. The more you VTEC the worse your mileage is. I usually get between 7-8 at the track. I've come to equate lower mileage with faster driving, although I have no scientific evidence to support that theory . It's just that as my lap times have gotten quicker over the last two years my mileage has gotten worse. JZR just posted in the racing forum that he got 4.5 at the track. Man he must be hella fast!! I'm gonna shoot for 3 next time I'm at the track!!!

Lets see....the tank is 13.2 gallons, and I have been known to get 200 miles/tank or less which is about 15.5 miles per gallon combined . I guess I've got a heavy foot at times, but sometimes I can get 300 miles per tank which is about 23 miles per gallon. That's pretty much all highway...I'm surprized your numbers are so much better than mine because I'm not a speedfreak on the freeway either. *shrug* I would have bought an Insight if I wanted fuel economy, but I lament that then I could have had MC blue. Oh, the sacrifices we make
In other news, I got my car back from the body shop, good as new. *whee!* Now I need to figure out how to get rid of the wheel I bent up, it's in the trunk of my beater. *shrug*

On my first tank, compliments of Honda, I got 24MPG, mainly due to the fact the car was driven 70-80 miles from Oxnard to home.
On my second tank, it got 21MPG, and that was with mostly city driving with a few short freeway hops. I am also a total beginner when it comes to manual transmissions, so figure that in as well as filling the tank up when it hits about the 1/3 level.
Third tank only has about 20 miles on it.
