Hi. My S used to get close to 29 mpg but now it is getting closer to 26.5, with almost 6,000 miles on it.
Most people say that the engine gets stronger as it breaks in, so is it safe to conclude that as my engine grows more powerful it will consume more gas?

The difference isn't that the engine is making more power. The difference is that, now that it's breaking in and "you" are getting more comfortable with it, you pushing that gas paddle harder than you did before.
The engine is making better power now but that will only effect fuel economy if the drive insists on using it.

I wouldn't worry about it!
