From my experience, I'd really have to work at it to run out of gas. The warning light seems to come on with ~2-3 gallons left, and the gauge hits zero bars with ~1-1.5 gallons left.

That said, now that it's getting cold at night I'm trying to fill up before it gets that low.

I previously drove a '96 Mustang GT convertible (4.6 liter V8). It averaged 18.5 mpg doing the same type of driving that yields 25 mpg in the S2k.

I normally get 23mpg on my commute. However at Thunderhill, I went through a tank in 113 miles. If you assume a few gallons still in the tank for reserve, that end us being about 9 mpg.

So Krazik is spot on. If you are racing around at 6K+ and constantly varying the throttle, (on/off) you too can see ridiculously low gas mileage!

Also, I bought 100 octane gas at the track at $5 a gallon. This was the most expensive fillup I have ever had in this car! It was $50 to fill it up.

Oh but, Song, I'll bet the StooK just *loves* drinking the 100 octane. That's like a good 20 year old single malt to you and me. (Mmmmm. Single Malt)

Most of the cars have the gauge indicator on one side of the tank. When the S is parked especially tilted towards the right side you will see the 2 or 3 bars lower before you parked. So I think the slope of the road makes the gauge read incorrectly until the car is on a level payment then turned off and on again.

I just go by my Trip Meter. I fill up when it gets to 270 miles. Usually, I have no bars at that time, and I fill in 11 gals.

Actually, for me the result is:

I get about 22-24 in my short city cycle driving, which is short drives of less than 3 miles each way.

I was getting about 20 in my 99 C5 Corvette.

On the highway, I dunno what the S2K will get, but the C5 got in the high 28mpg range cruising at 70mph in 6th...

All that and it could run low 13s just to prove that there is more to life than good gas mileage

I get 18mpg on typical 16 miles daily commute; shift point at 7K and trying to stay above 4K.
