Gaining Horsepower other than S/C or turbo?
Ok my question is pretty simple. I'd like to gain some extra horse power but I dont want to spend 3,000 on a super charger or on a turbo kit. What can be done. I know that exhaust does absolutely nothing, and intake is probably the same. What does do somthing? Let me know what kind of upgrades I need to gain some power. Thanks
No NOS either.

This engine responds very slightly to breathing mods, IE Intake/ headers/ exhaust. Depending on your engine, and a lot of other factors, like how well the parts work together, you could see anywhere from 5-15 HP gain at the peak with those mods. They will, however, give you more midrange if you choose the right combination of pieces. Cams will give you a nice boost, but driveability on a day to day basis might suffer as well as long term reliability-and say goodbye to your warranty.
A full N/A buildup will certainly affect driveability; Higher compression pistons, stronger, lighter rods, a higher redline, a stand alone fuel and engine management system coupled with cams, the breathing mods, and significant changes to the valvetrain will bump HP by a lot, and changes the powerband too. then again, for such a project you're looking at $10-15,000.
If you want more horsepower cheaply, you got the wrong car. My suggestion is to install the 4.44 gear set and simply put the horsepower you already have to better use. Good luck.

OR, you can spend a couple hundred bucks for a trailer hitch, give it to someone you know with a Dodge Viper, hook yourself up and go where he goes.

Sounds like I thought it would sound. If im going to spend 10 grand on all that stuff why not just super charge it. Im used to turbo cars with bolt on stuff that will boost up over 100 horse easily. Guess I gotta get used to it. I'd rather have rims.

If you loose some weight it's the same as gaining HP.
I think the spare tire and jack can go. Easy, cheap ($0), and reversible. (but be prepared to be flat bedded if you have a flat)
Drive around in less than 1/2 full tank.
