Funny thing about car dealers...
So I get this call yesterday from my local Honda Dealer (Hokie Honda in Christiansburg Va) and they ask me a couple questions, and I fee they're about to remind me of my 45k servicing. Then they were like how long have you owned the car, I say around a year. After that they go on to say that I probably wouldn't be interested in getting rid of it, however if I should decide to there is a growing need in the area for good used S2000's... This is the second dealer to try to buy a car from me. The first succeeded in purchasing my 02 Sentra Spec-V which was a POS...
Just an odd call.. thought I'd share.

Honda, must have this in their marketing suggestions to the dealers. I had a friend that got the same call on her acura and traded it in. My dad had 1991 accord that he got rid of about a year ago. He got a leteer from the Honda dealer ( form letter) saying the needed used cars. I can believe the y want your S, but I can't believe there is a demand for 91 accords We figured they sent the letter to eveyone that had their car serviced.

Obviously they send out those letters b/c a person is highly likely to buy a new(er) car from the dealership that they trade their old car back in to. The dealership ends up making profit on the resell of whatever they bought back from you as well as whatever you buy from them.
It's a good marketing strategy, because many people who were 'sorta' thinking about trading in their car will be pushed to do it after such a letter.

It's not a good marketing strategy because it's a transparent lie. There is no special demand for those used cars and it's clearly a manipulative ploy to get you to buy a new car. I don't appreciate being lied to and treated as an idiot, and that dealership's reputation with me is dirt afterwards.
I've gotten those letters, and a phone call once. When I challenged the salesman, he just hung up.

In this dealers defense they've moved around 8 s2k's in the past month or so. My area is stocking up on them like they're going to be the last rations during the apocalypse.... who knows.... surely not getting mine though.
