Default Fumoto drain valve

Hey i've done a search on this and have heard many many people say it was the best thing they could have done to their S. I have heard a couple post about breaking the threads (which i assume was from over torquing). But i've also heard that there have been some other things go wrong with these.. I saw one person lost theirs before but other than that has anybody had a bad experience with this drain valve?

Please be aware that my roommate that works as a mechanic for a dealership did have one car come in recently for a blown motor because the drain valve failed. No specifics on why or how, but it dumped all the oil on the road.

You lose this thing and...you lose a lil bit more than the valve.

when I first got my S - I thought (for a moment) the fumoto might be a good idea - with the slightest torque pressure the thing broke while installing just like the photos above - fortunately the broken thread piece backed right out of the drain hole - I decided that I'm fine & better off to do without fumoto 'technology' & stick to OEM Honda drain bolt & crush ring....

RACER .....................

VERY well done post. This should be enough evidence to show that the convenience feature of this product is not worth the risk. Now, if I had an old engine that could be completly rebuilt for a 1000 bucks, maybe ..................... but then, maybe NOT.

moving to S2ktalk.

use this product at your own risk. way too many people have had bad experiences with it, and IMO, it's not worth the $8,000 gamble to replace your engine just to install this thing....

The valve may work for some peeps, but I have read posts that described leaky fumoto valves, and like the picture shows, breakage. It's your car, do what you want. I'm just giving an opinion.
I guess I'm one of those peeps who had no problem with the valve. I installed it cautiously, did not overtorque it, and the valve switch ended in the perfect position (UP). The valve does not leak, and it's never rotated in the couple of years I've been using it. I do find it much more convenient to do my oil changes now.

The valve is not very expensive. If you're interested in the product, you could buy it, and see if you can install it correctly. If it doesn't work, return it. It seems to me that you'll know if there's a problem during install.

Those are some scary stories. I think I'll stay the course with my trusty bolt and ring...
