Today, I drove for about 25 miles with no bars on the fuel gauge and the reserve light on.
I finally put gas and all it gets is 10.7 gallons?
I thought the total tank capacity was 12.9 gallons..
Very conservative reserve or something wrong with the gauge?

I have the same story.

owners manual says 13.4 gallons or something.

I have NO bars showing on my meter when I go in for a fill up, and I only put in 10.3 gallons, I have a little over 210 miles on the trip odometer.

Does this mean I have an extra 3 gallons in my tank, and I can get an extra 60 miles without running out of gas?

Maybe Honda did this little trick on us to keep our gas hungry cars from being fuel starved.

I've noticed this the last 4 fill-ups, but I haven't got the nerve to stretch my fill-ups past 210 miles.

From my experience, Honda gas gauges are very generous. Gas lights come on with 3+ gallons left...

And, yes, it is to keep people from running out of gas as often.

I never ran the bars all the way out on my 02, but i have done it 3 times in the 05. I think this is an ap2 thing. It scared the hell out of me the first time, i just knew my butt was going to be walking.

I do 50/50 city and highway here in charlotte NC and on 93 shell/exxon I can go about 70 miles after the light comes on. I fill up about 11.8-12.4 gallons. mileage is about 285-295 every time.

capacity is 13.2 I believe.

However, the first couple of times you do this to figure out just how far you can go, your sphincter is pukered up pretty tight for those 70 miles.

That pretty much mirrors my experience on my '04 model, gasoline brands notwithstanding.

My low fuel light comes on right when the gauge drops from three bars to two. Within 20 miles or so, it's dark. I've also gone as far as 60 to 70 miles with a dark gas gauge and Xviper is right, the first time I did this, I was puckering, big time! I've done it a number of times now and am familiar enough with the car to feel pretty comfortable about it. The most I've filled up with has been right at, or just under, 12 gallons.

I'm pretty sure my owners manual says 13.2 gallons also. What I don't know and we should all keep in mind, is that the stated capacity of the fuel tank does not always reflect how much of that total is actually usable. In most cases, there's usually a couple of tenths that the pick up tube can't get to.

I drove the car from Milwaukee to new Orleans having only owned it for 3 days. We were cruising along at 85 or so, and the fuel bars started to dissappear faster than we could find a gas station. Finally we were out of bars - no gas station in sight. It was close to 95 outside and I KNEW we'd be on foot soon. So I drove like a punk - 45mph with a LOT of coasting - finally into the gas station to find out I had 3 gallons left!?!

Same here, i run the car till its down to 0 bars and i get a total of about 240ish miles to the tank (mix between city/highway). When i do a fill up, i get about 10.5- 10.9 gallons per fill-up. Which makes me think either i'm getting some really poor gas milage or i still have a lot of gas left in the reserves because 13.2 gallon capacity should get more gas than 240ish to the tank. Or could it also be because my car is still new and i only have 2,500 miles on the odom

no bars on the gas gauge doesn't bother me, I've driven honda's as long as I've had a license. My first experience was with a 91 legend. I could go almost 100 miles after the light came on. for some reason they deisgned that sucker to come on right at 1/8th tank left.

I've also noticed that at different stations, you will notice some pumps really shoot the gas in quick while others you can easily add little amounts like penny by penny. It is these pumps I seem to be able to get in the 12 gallon fill-up range.

I'm just guessing here but Honda did the early light thing so that we don't destroy anything due to the fuel running out, and so that we don't get stuck on the interstate somewhere and get hurt or killed......so we can buy more Honda's in the future
