I had a little bit of overfill/spillage one time and there were no ill effects. It wasn't gushing out like you said, but I still think you should be alright.

Wanna see something cool that gas can do?
Fill a styrofoam cup with gas and count to 5. gussssssh, splatter.

Can't repeated overfilling do damage? I've always known never to keep filling right up to the top once the pump clicks off.

Yeah I never add gas after the auto pump shut off. I usually watch.. except this time.
How many times do you see someone leave the pump on auto and run inside for a candy bar?. Scary

Yes, repeated overfilling of the tank can cause the charcoal vapor recovery canister in the car to become saturated with liquid gasoline.

Dark Youngin,

Something even cooler, get an aluminum can 1/2 full of gas, fill it with styrofoam (dissolves) Until it is totally full. Light on fire= Neypam (however it is spelled) it will burn for awhile and melt the can and if put it on a street it will make a big mark too.

Wonnnderful. We've already gotten in trouble for talking in front of the 10 year olds about sex, now we're gonna get it for teaching fire bomb making techniques

You can bet your ass I'm gonna try it

Same thing has happened a a time or two to my car, just bad pumps. Just wash and rewax the area and you will be fine.

Maybe you should report the malfunction to the station manager. Maybe one of the next customers won't be so lucky.
