Front license plate

OK, my only gripe in the first 4 hours of ownership - my car has the front license plate bracket on it. It was already mounted before I ever talked to the dealer, and the tabs that cover the holes are nowhere to be found. I greatly prefer the look of the car w/o the license plate bracket, but I am curious about if it is worth the trouble. Have any of you had any legal troubles because you didn't have a front plate, or gone scott free despite being without one? Obviously this doesn't really apply if your state doesn't require front plates.
Thanks!

I think if you took a poll about this, you would find that the majority of members on this board run front plate-free, regardless of any state law to the contrary. I'm waiting for some pending legislation in my state to pass concerning this issue before I go plateless. In fact, I'll take a poll.

I keep the plate off even though it's illegal in Missouri, and I've never had a problem with it so far. If a cop does pull me over for it, I'll give the "I'm waiting for the bracket to come in" bs.

I was silly enough to park on the street about 100 feet from a police station- I got a "fix it" ticket. Out of 11 s2000s on a recnt drive, I was the only one with a front plate (until I took it off that is...)

Five years in TX and five years in MN running without a front plate (various cars that I thought looked better w/o the plate). Even though I may have been stopped for various reasons (only 1 speeding ticket in Ennis about 9 years ago)the issue of the front plate never came up

I got pulled over in my Civic for no front plates. I put them on my S when I got my plates. I was like one of two people out of 15 at the first Irvine meet. My new bumper doesn't have the holes for them so.... I'll wait and see what happens.

You can get those covers from H and A parts on the net. I dont have the site address, but I am sure its easy to get. They cost about 2.25 each. I had specifically asked the plate not to be put on and it still was. also they lost my plugs too.
Worse yet, SC doesnt require a front plate, so this was all for them to put their "ad" plate.
