Friend Just Got An S2000
My friend just recently bought an S2000. He's going to be making payments on it for the next five years for roughly $480 a month. Right now, after making his payment, he will have around $300 left for everything else (gas, cell phone bill, etc.). With this limited amount of spending money, what do you guys think would be the best exhaust for him to save up and buy? He wants to get something that keeps the car dual exhaust, and really likes the HKS Hiper, but it's expensive... Is there anything else that would be just as good, dual, and cheaper...?

Best bet:
New job. $300/mo is not a lot of extra cash. He is going to need tires LONG before 5 years. Brakes, additional maintence like oil changes, air filters, etc.
A new exhaust would be the ABSOULUTE last thing on my list, especially with such limited funds.

Well, if he's only making $8.50 an hour, I think it was not a well thought out move to buy an S2000. He must be young. Never count on raises to happen. Especially with the way the economy is right now.

Man, life is so good in this country... I'm going to sound like a grumpy old man (and I'm not even 30), but when I was working my way up no way I considered a $30K+ automobile... I didn't even consider a cell phone. Those were luxuries. I can't believe he's able to spend 60% of his after-tax income on a vehicle. We haven't even heard how he can pay for insurance on the vehicle.
Of course, it's none of our business to criticize how people spend their money, but when I see things like this it just makes me intolerant whenever people whine about the economy. For someone making $8.50 an hour to afford this vehicle, life in this great nation must be pretty dang good.

I think he should save up for some insurance first.
Its worth it. He will need it.
Then he can sell some recylables to make some money for gas so he can take it out once in a while.
Reality Check ! He won't have this car for long.
Tickets, Maintenance, Insurance, accidents, etc.
300 a month extra after car payment wont go far at all.
Good Luck .

Crixtala - Not to sound condescending, but I would guess that the average income on this board is at least $40k/yr. That being said, if your friend thinks he can afford it, more power to him! I'm sure he'll enjoy it given the % of his income thats going to it. Actually, I'm surprised he was able to get financed for that much $$. Did he put any money down? What color combo?

If all he's got left after the car payment is $300 for everything else, he ought to keep the stock exhaust. There are many more important things to spend your money on (or save your money for) then a new exhaust system. $300 doesn't go far these days.
