Free tires for life?
Hi,
I'm looking to get a new convertible soon, and I'll probably get an '03-'04 S2000. I plan on calling around to a number of dealerships to find the S2000 I want at the best price/amenities. I'm looking casually now, and one of the dealerships I called mentioned free tires for life if I got an S2000 through it. I haven't actually gotten the details on the tire policy, but I imagine tires are OEM specific.
This dealership is located four hours away from me, so any free tires would entail eight hours of driving too. While I'm not too concerned with the drive, my question is, are S2000 tires expensive enough and are their lifespans short enough that I should seriously consider getting a car from this dealership? I plan on keeping the car for at least four years.
Now that I'm thinking about it, did anyone else get any extra amenities when they got their S2000's? Thanks,

I'm pretty sure that the dealer is thinking in the lines of "passenger tires" like those that fit the Civic or Accord. These have treadlife of what? 50-80,000 miles or more? They are fairly cheap as tires go too. The dealer would likely have to pony up one set of tires over the car's lifetime.
So it would be a deal if:
1. The dealer offers the original OEM replacement tire, not a generic tire.
2. There are no limits, as in one set per X,000 miles or X years.
3. Deductables? Labor costs? Road hazard?
A full set of new tires for the S2000 cost $700-800 to put on the car. You'd need a set every year or two depending on your driving habits.
If the dealer isn't aware of this, take advantage of it. Always ask for and read the policy.

As soon as the dealer figures out how much it will cost them to honor such an agreement, they will either withdraw the offer, or find some way to weasel out of it after you've bought the car. Not worth the headache. I say stay away from them.

Classic Honda in Orlando (where I bought my S2000) has this program and it's 100% legit. I get free tires for the life of the car. The certificate I got at signing shows the original Bridgestone Potenzas as the replacement tires.
A very nice perk considering the short life span and expense of the S2000 tires!

Call me a skeptic but ESPECIALLY for our cars there has to be a loop hole here for them. If they find on the internet you have registered for an Auto-X (EVO anyone ) will they void the tire deal? If you install aftermarket valve stem caps, does it void?
IF you do go with them, be up front with them, you have read that this car goes through rear tires due to it's nature and want it in writing that them replacing your tires each 10k miles will be covered. And you shouldn't have to pay anything more than the standard few hundred over invoice, it's thier luck that you are willing to buy a car at their dealership. S2k's aren't so rare and hard to get anymore that they should get you to pay any extra money for this perk.
Good luck and beware.
