Fourth gear woes
Does anyone else have a MY2002 S with the "pops out of fourth gear" problem? I've used the search feature and all I can find is '00 and '01s with the problem. The desciption of the problem is the same as I see in the older posts, when holding a steady speed, no load, in fourth gear it will suddenly pop out. This has happened to me about six times. I'll be calling the dealer this week to set up a date.
I bought the car from Leith Honda here in Raleigh. Does anyone from this area recommend a particular service advisor and or tech to talk with?
I'll report back once I get it worked on.

One of my friends has an '01 with this problem. There is a TSB out for this item and the dealer should fix it under warranty. It's a major job: 8 hours labor that involves removing the transmission and replacing a few internal parts.

Yes, I've seen quite a few '01s with this problem, I'm just wondering why it's still here in my '02! Anyone hear of any other '02s with this problem?

Leith Honda had my car all day today, but could not reproduce the problem. I have the car back and they are supposed to check with Honda about the problem tomorrow.
I talked with their technician and the tsb on the 2001s ends with a particular VIN, all the newer ones are not supposed to have the problem. Unless Honda tells them something, I don't think they will do anything unless they can reproduce the problem.
Wish me luck!

I had this done to my car do a search and you will get the whole story, the long and short of it was a replacement of 1-5 gears all the collets and most of the syncros. From what I have heard the current tsb does not apply to the 02 but I could be mistakes.
It took me almost three tries to get them to fix it.
You will lose the car for about 4 days and it will be much better when it gets back. My dealer did do the fix without reproducing the problem, of course I never take no for a answer.

No for an answer? HAHAHAHA, that would be shooting yourself in the foot if you let them boss you around. My philosophy is this: I paid for the car, its my money, and their warrenty. They will fix it, or I will be the squeekiest damn whell they have ever heard.....Can you say "Better Business Bureau"?

I finally got called back by Leith Honda. Honda tech support told them to do the '01 tsb on my car. They ordered the parts today and plan on doing the work early next week. They say they will be able to get it done in one day.
They were never able to reproduce the problem since it is so fickle, but they are doing the work anyway. They really seem to want to please the owners of this great car. Now I just need to hope the work goes OK.

My car had the tsb for 4th gear done today. I brought it in this morning and got it back tonight. Transmission feels great, but it'll take a couple of days for me to be sure it's fixed.
It will be nice to drive and not have to worry about it popping at with no warning.
