Fluid change
alright guys, i just bought a new s2000 like a month ago. I got about 1300 miles on it and its my daily driver. From what I gather on this forum...I should change my transmission fluid cause I'm getting that 2nd gear grind or is it differential fluid? Whats the difference? Should I do it myself? and if so ..how? I am retarded when it comes to that stuff...I mean i change my own oil...but thats about it. Should I just ask the dealer to do it if thats easier? any info would be appreciated.

what you should do is read the archives...
That aside, it's still early, change your transmission fluid around 3,000 miles and you can do your diff fluid then too. To answer your next question, what fluid do I use? look up the archives in the "under the hood" forum.

Yup, it is too early.
I change these fluids all the time (for various owners) and see/smell some pretty toasted fluids.
The best service interval for tranny and diff seems to be about 15k. If you change your oil, you can change your tranny and diff. It is just a drain plug and fill plug, but get yourself a hand pump to get the fluids back in (cheap enough at Kragen/Autozone).
For Tranny fluids...........Redline MTL is a great synth. MT-90 is another one to try if you have a really notchy shifter, but can be really stiff on cold mornings at start up until the car is warm. Try the MTL first.
For the diff fluid...........try the Mobil 1 synth 75w90 gear lubricant. Since Honduh doesn't market a replacemant diff fluid for us, we have to use others. Another popular one is Almasol LE-607, but it is only available online. I like getting things off the shelf, and Mobil 1 is everywhere.
Best of luck on the DIY.

FYI:
I have about 3500 miles on my MY04, and the second gear grind is almost gone. It has been progressively improving over the past 1500 miles in particular. Several months ago, when my car was new, I read a lot of threads discussing the problem, and a fluid change did not seem to make a difference for the majority of people.

I would change the differential fluid immediately and change the tranny fluid out at the first oil change.
You can easily do these things yourself. If this is your first RWD car then that may contribute to why you think the tranny and the differential may be the same thing. They definitely are NOT. Read your owner's manual and then buy a Helm's manual and learn how to do all of this work yourself. Differential and tranny fluid changes, aside from engine oil, are about the easiest thing you can do on this car and IMO shouldn't be taken to the dealer to do so.

Thanks a lot for the info guys. I can't believe how close the s2k community is. My second day driving out my block...I see a yellow s2k drive by and wave to me. It was some asian chick...for some reason, I find chicks driving manual transmission cars hot. but yea thanks again.
