I have these aluminum kit recently installed on the interior of the car. Unfortunately, the acetone solution i used to clean one of the pieces was applied a little too hard and it looks like the surface is scratched due to friction and showing a darkened color. Does anybody knows if there some kind of chemicals or paint out there that could fix this? Thanks-Brian

Brian, if the part is not clearcoated you might try a mild rubbing compound. But if there is discoloration it sounds like the part has a clearcoat which is designed to stop oxidation. If this is so compound wont work. 3-m makes a product called finesse, which would be a good mild compound.

Just a thought......Acetone should not effect aluminum in any way. My guess is that the aluminum has a thin film of protective plastic over it that was not removed by the installer. The plastic is almost undetectable and is used to protect brushed aluminum frequently. The acetone WILL attack this plastic and form a gum....the gum looks like you descibe. Find an edge and see if you can lift a corner if there is plastic. If there is..remove the plastic and then use more acetone to dissolve and clean the gunk in the noted area.

Thanks for the tips. The acetone stuff or nail polisher was actually recommended in the install. instruction. I'll check to see if there're any plastic film to peel. Hopefully, i won't have to replace it.
