The most popular year now is the Last AP1, the 2003. It has the glass window, the 9K redline and it is the fastest AP1. In the long run, this will be the most sought after year.

EDIT: And the Topic/Thread title sucks, fix it if you can. Makes it sound like you bought serial number 0001 from 1999.
I think that having a car like that with relatively low miles and a lot of factory options to go with it will yield a high return

Nobody is going to pay more for an 00 AP1 over an 02-03 AP1.

And unless you have #1 from 1999, it's not going to happen.

You might lose slightly less money, but it won't appreciate in value.

Inflation will make sure of that.

Kinda off topic remark. I drove the S2000 today and a lot of young teens have been giving me the thumbs up today! I had another teenager say the S2000 is a nice looking Honda. He never ever seen it before.

I think there's a lot of younger kids who love the S2000! That's interesting. I guess our car will always turn heads no matter how old it gets....

later

The last year they make them is going to be worth the most.
Is the case with most cars, look at the Supra. The most improved of them all will be he one to cost more unless is something major like vin # 0001 or something like that.

I think the CR will be the one to take that title unless they comeup with something better.

I don't think a lot of these are going to last 30 years, not because the car itself won't hold up, but because as they become more affordable boneheads are going to get behind the wheel and wreck them. I think if you have a low mileage, mint condition S2k period its going to be worth a premium. The only specific cars I feel will be worth considerable extra money are the first and last AP1 and AP2. As with all classic cars keeping it unmolested is key to retaining value.

not to sound biased, but i think the S that will be the best after a while will be...

==AP2, because it's got all the extra features, like DBW and VSA,
==preferably MY07, because the only thing that's close to MY07 is MY06, but then it's a year older,
==red, because it's the best color...

then you'll say that 08's has all this too, but they have ugly rims...

why MY07 you asked??, because i got one...

(and for those thick, and stupid enough to flame me... i'm JOKING)
don't hate

Interior trim accents and drive by wire are pretty minor changes. I do agree however that the plastic rear window is the least desirable.
The Drive-By-Wire throttle system is a HUGE change! It went from cable to no-cable. I like my plastic window. If I look through it I can tell if it's sunny or not, I think? I prefere my hardtop window though.

EDIT: the 00-01 S2k is lighter than all the rest of the years (just read it in another thread!)

Who knows though, maybe the CR will look better 15 years from now then it does today, since it's a limited edition. But I'd guess a rare color or color combo, like GPW with full red interior, will be worth more.

The question of whether an 2000 model would worth more than later models will simply be a function of supply and demand. And guess what? I would imagine that most of the demand would come from current S2K owners. Those who never owned one before? Probably won't be so picky about little AP1 and AP2 differences years from now.

My guess-low VIN# M00 and that is only if there is a demand for this car after they stop production.
The CR- only because it is the last year(?) and will be the rarest of the AP2's.
It would be enough for me if production did end with this MY, that all S2000's maintained their present day value with a possible slight increase each year for several years.
This is still pretty optimistic but how many cars can you actually buy that you could even dream of such a possibility.?
It's not really necessary that we make money but that if we could actually drive a car and lose very little, break even or even make a little.
