First oil change...as per factory...
I know this topic has been covered alot, but what is the recommended amount of miles to wait before the first oil change AS PER THE MANUAL...
I've heard 3750, 4000, 4500 ext...
The reason i'm asking is, I'm looking at a used s2k that the owner waited until 4500miles for the first oil change, then ever 6 months after that. He waited "to keep the specific oil additives help engine break in." This sounds in tune to what i've heard, but that to me seems a little bit to long, but again, i'm no s2000 expert.
Thanks kindly,

Honda states 6,000 kms or 6 months for Canada.
Any chance this will affect the car down the road(cause damage, shorten engine life?)
It sounds like the owner had good intentions... i'm curious to see what the USA manual reads? The car is a US spec 2003 s2k.
Thanks,

The owner did follow Honda's recommendation. First oil change is not recommended until after 5000 miles. Search for Woodwork's posts. Actual recommendation is 7500 miles for first oil change.
Break-in, as in limiting to under 6000rpm, is the only thing for 600 miles.
Unless you're in really harsh weather, 5k is fine. I have an oil minder on my car, and with the assumptions all AP2's are fed the same oil from the factory and Honda's oil minder system is correctly setup, the oil should have been fine through break-in mileage.
PS. Break-in oil is evidently the same as regular oil. Search for Roadrage's posts. I'm still keeping my break-in oil until 5k though. Just in case there's some uber secret untested-for material that might give me an extra 2 hp that I won't ever notice.

The factory fill oil has extra of something that helps with engine break in, but is otherwise normal oil.

The new engines like those in our S2K's are probably fairly "clean" from the factory, but it just gives me piece of mind to swap out the oil early from a car I know was probably built anywhere from 3 months to 1 year before I took delivery.
